Scalp Reconstruction Using Microvascular Free Tissue Transfer in the Patients with Intracranial Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Infection

Purpose: When scalp infection occurs after craniectomy and cranioplasty, it tends to be recurrent fatal. The can spread the underlying tissue when skull is not present act as a barrier, eventually leading epidural abscesses encephalitis. In such cases of widespread infection, reconstruction defect surgical debridement infected great challenge for plastic neurosurgeons.Methods: Six patients with forehead, scalp, dura were referred our clinic control repeated infection. Features duration presence foreign bodies, bacterial culture tests, types free flaps, postoperative complications investigated.Results: All intracranial infections neurosurgery was 4.3±2.6 months. Foreign bodies (artificial bone, titanium mesh, plate, screw) in three cases. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria cultured five (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci, carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii). For removal body transfer performed. controlled successfully during follow-up periods (59.3±42.0 months). Conclusion: Intracranial on fatal lead long-term sequelae. antibiotic-resistant bacteria, well-vascularized followed by recommended. After through transfer, secondary operations cranioplasty mesh or fat injection performed safely without recurrence
